Hola amigos del Taller Puertorriqueño,
It is with great honor that we announce that Taller Puertorriqueño has been chosen as recipient of the 2008 Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Outstanding Leadership & Service to Arts Education Award.
Furthermore, not only are we delighted to receive such prestigious honor, but it is also with great pride that Taller stands as the FIRST Latino organization in the 28 year history of the Governorעs Awards for the Arts to receive such recognition.
In a press release issued yesterday by the Office of the Governor, the Honorable Judge Marjorie O. Rendell, First Lady of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania , said, ף"the winners exemplify the excellence and diversity of the arts in Pennsylvania . Each has made a lasting contribution to our state. Their achievements in the arts are a model for young Pennsylvania artists and an inspiration for all.פ"
Thank you all for believing in Taller's mission to preserve, develop and promote Puerto Rican artistic and cultural traditions, as well as to the quality representation of other Latin American cultures and our common roots.
Governor Edward G. Rendell will present the awards at a free and open to the public ceremony at 6:45 p.m. on Nov. 12 at the Community Arts Center in Williamsport , PA . A ticketed reception will follow.
